About THE Centennial Cross
History of the Cross
The Centennial Cross was constructed in 1937 to commemorate the Centennial of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. The blue cross overlooks Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Key West, IA - just South of Dubuque. It has been a symbol of Christian faith for over 8 decades!
A New Cross
In 2024 a new concrete footing was poured at the original site of the cross and a new steel cross was erected that is 137' tall with LED lighting on 2 sides.
Mt. Olivet Cemetery has allowed us space to install an information board and a reflection spot for people to be able to visit and reflect and pray. We have named this the "Reflections on the Cross Prayer Garden"
You Can Help
The cost for the new cross and installation and the cost for the Reflection area in Mt. Olivet were well over $400,000 but we are proud to announce the end to that capital campaign, reaching our goal. We still encourage donations to help us with the cost of operations, maintenance and insurance.

It features the names of donors that gave over $10,000 and also features basic information about the Cross. It also provides a link to this website where all donors that gave over $100 will be acknowledged.
